Wes Ward
Wes Ward is the Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture. Ward assumed office in 2015. Ward's current term ends on January 12, 2027.
Ward was recommended for the secretary post by Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson (R) on March 13, 2015, and the Arkansas Agriculture Board confirmed Ward's appointment on March 21.[1] Ward's appointment filled the vacancy left by former Secretary Butch Calhoun, who resigned in December 2014.[2]
Before becoming head of the state agriculture department, Ward, a lawyer, ran unsuccessfully for Craighead County judge in 2014.[3]
Biography
Ward was born in Lake City, Ark., and studied agriculture at Arkansas State University and the University of Arkansas. He holds a B.S. in agriculture business as well as an L.L.M in agriculture and food law.[4]
Ward works as a lawyer specializing in agriculture and food, per his educational training. He is also serves in the United States Marine Corps Reserves as a captain and civil affairs officer.[4]
