Wesley Lawrence is a born and raised multi-generational El Pasoan. He is an El Paso Ambassador, a member of the LGBTQIA+, a dedicated Community leader who has served on multiple city boards, a Precinct Chair for PCT 195, serves as the State Democratic Executive Committeeman for Congressional District 23, a proud graduate of Austin Highschool, and a dedicated community advocate who ran for City Council in District 4 during the 2020 election. He is currently enrolled at El Paso Community College, pursuing an Associate's in Mass Media Communications.

Wesley decided to run for City Council in 2020 after noticing how our local government has ignored the people's will for far too long and because he was tired of seeing people taxed out of their homes with nowhere to turn. Wesley ran one of the most compassionate, Progressive, and informational campaigns for City Council in El Paso's history. He also made history as one of the youngest El Pasoans to run for City Council.

Wesley is running in 2024 to be your voice on city council, fix our city's broken promises to Animal Advocates, bring more investments to District 4, fix our erratic tax rate, bring our city's perspective to Austin, hold developers accountable for the irresponsible development of El Paso, and to be your voice for sensible reforms to the way our local government operates.
  • Protecting our people, pets, and public safety: My goal is to explore innovative solutions to address the high attrition rates in our public safety sector. I also want to make El Paso a more accessible city for individuals with disabilities and ensure that we invest in critical infrastructure.
  • Restoring faith in local government: I aim to reconnect our community with their local government by establishing a satellite office/resource center funded by my own salary, increasing public meetings and access to our office, and donating 20% of my salary to support local initiatives. I will actively engage with community stakeholders before major votes and carefully consider the impact on taxpayers and renters.
  • Improving Animal Services: I will advocate for responsibly expanding our shelter system and partnering with state and federal agencies to bring more low-cost services, such as spaying/neutering and vaccines, to those in need. Additionally, I will push to restore a true no-kill shelter while addressing the stray population.
Animal Welfare, Public Safety, Accessibility, Economic Development, Job Growth, Community Engagement, Responsible Spending, Taxes, and Smart Growth.
The ability to bring community together to solve unique issues that impact our constituents. I'm excited to open up our office/resource center to keep our constituents informed, engaged, and feel like their voices are a part of the solution.
Listening and engaging their constituents, selfless leadership, being able to communicate effectively with their constituents, being a problem solver, and communicating
Listening and engaging their constituents, advocating for responsible reforms
building a city government that listen to our people, advocates for working class families, enhances the quality of life for our people and pets, fixes our attrition rate in our public safety sector, and empowers our people to be involved in and trust their local government.
The ability to cap property valuation increases, creating policies to empower our community, controlling utility rates (increases/decreases), and creating programs to help empower vulnerable members of our community.
While I don't think it's required I do think it is beneficial. serving on city commissions, the State Democratic Executive Committee, and on non-profit boards has allowed me to be ready to serve on day one.
communication, community engagement, public speaking, community advocacy, policy experience, and leadership capabilities.
Our city government sets our tax rate, hires and fires our City Manager & City Attorney, sets the yearly budget, creates policies that impact our everyday lives, and so much more.
Good Party, Run For Something, Constable Louie Aguilar (D), Texas Democratic Party Vice Chair of Finance Kendall Scudder, TX-23 Democratic Nominee Santos Limon, Northeast Democrats of El Paso, Stonewall Democrats of El Paso, and hundreds of residents of District 4
Financial transparency and accountability should always be at the forefront of our local government. It's vital our people know where their tax dollars are going and better understand their local taxes. I will work with community stakeholders to keep people engaged and ensure that everyone feels like they are a part of the system.

My name is Wesley Lawrence, I am a born and raised El Pasoan, an Eagle Scout, a proud environmentalist, an advocate for the people, and someone who will never abandon our city. I decided to run for office because the rich keep getting richer, and the poor keep getting poorer. Examples of mismanagement by our city leaders includes the failed "arena" project, the constant tax incentives for the rich, the exorbitant increase in taxes on small business owners and homeowners, the constant oversteps by the City Manager, and a continuous lack of concern for the people of El Paso. It is time to end business as usual!
  • Wesley is someone who will listen to his constituents; far too long, the incumbent has sat by idly, often ignoring the voices of the people. He ignored us when we asked him not to approve the City Manager's contract, when we begged him to stop the failed "arena" project, when the people begged him to stop the use of Certificates of Obligations (non-voter approved debt), and when we pleaded with him not to raise our taxes four years in a row. Wesley will take a stand, he will listen to you and your family, and he will always put our city and its people first..
  • Wesley supports transitioning our city to clean energy via solar farms and wind farms. The Rio Grande Sierra Club chapter proudly endorses him because He demonstrates a clear commitment to outdoor preservation and strong environmentalist policies. His platform includes creating jobs in the growing renewable energy sector and combating air pollution in working-class communities. Lawrence will fight to preserve El Paso's historical neighborhoods such as Duranguito and Segundo Barrio, and outdoor sites in the Franklin Mountains region.
  • Wesley cares about every El Pasoan, that's why he made history by being the first fully accessible campaign. He will ensure that our city's sidewalks are safe, fight for more curb cuts, and work with the Community of Disabled people to make El Paso more accessible.
Wesley is passionate about our environment, cutting spending, transparency, ending pay to play politics, preserving our city's history, holding the city manager accountable, ending the use and abuse of certificates of obligations and franchise fees, and ensuring that small businesses have the tools to succeed.
The core responsibilites for someone elected to this office should be listening to their constituents, getting the people involved in the decision making process, being transparent about decisions, holding the City Manager accountable, and ensuring that the people of El Paso are put first and not big money donors, developers, or special interest groups.
When I look at our current city government, I think of a government that has been left in the past, a government that doesn't care about its people, and a government that only benefits big-money donors and developers.

I want to create positive change in our government that will make a transparent government, a caring government, and a passionate government that takes care of the people. This can be done by transitioning to clean energy, fighting for mental health programs, funding community enrichment organizations, establishing a city-wide broadband service, and ending pay to play politics.
In the summer of 2017 I worked as the Life to Eagle Area Director for Camp Wehinahpay located in Sacramento, NM. I was responisble for developing curriculum, instructing the following meritbadges citizenship in the nation, communications, public speaking, american heritage, and scouting heritage, and was in charge of four other counselors.

This job allowed me to advance my public speaking and leadership skills, during this summer I mentored and taught over 250 young scouts. After coming home that summer I continued to get involved in politcal campaigns and advocating for the people of El Paso.
As of recently I have been listening to a lot of Juan Gabriel, Dwight Yoakam, Juice World, and other great artists. I think recently the song that got stuck in my head is La Frontera by Juan Gabriel
Some of the little known powers of this office include appointing people to different city level boards, hiring and firing of the City Manager and City Attorney, and creating policies that effect our everday life.
I do believe that having previous experiene in government or politics is beneficial, but I don't think it should be requried. I think that anyone should be allowed to run for office as long as they have their city's best interest in mind.
