The West Virginia State Superintendent of Free Schools Amendment, Amendment 2, also known as Amendment No. 2, was on the ballot in West Virginia on November 4, 1958, as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved. The amendment gave the "state board the responsibility for general supervision of free schools, transferring that responsibility from the state superintendent. Also, the state superintendent was changed from an elective position to an appointment by the board, substantially reducing the power and independence of the office."[1][2]
