Recall reports

An effort to recall five members of the Westland, Michigan, city council was launched in August 2012.[1] The five city council members targeted for recall were James Godbout, Adam Hammons, Meriam Kadi, Michael Kehrer and Dewey Reeves. The recall effort did not result in a recall election.

Reasons for recall

William Campbell and Burke Rock filed the recall petitions. The catalyst for recall was a vote to approve a 40-year amendment to the city's Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) plan. The new plan could include construction of a new city hall.[1]

Path to the ballot

Petition language was approved on August 9. Recall organizers would have needed to collect 5,637 signatures on each petition in order to force a recall election.[1]
