Elections on April 14 will consist of school board elections in California and South Dakota, as well as a state legislative election in South Carolina. The South Carolina race will fill former state Representative Kristopher Crawford's (R) seat following his recent re-election.

In California, four candidates are running for three available seats on the Burbank Unified School District Board of Education. During this election season, the district is searching for a new superintendent since Jan Britz announced she would retire from the position after the 2014-2015 school year. Candidates discussed the relationship of the school board and superintendent in a candidate forum prior to the primary election. Other topics discussed included the implementation of Common Core standards, vocational training and the board's relationship with the Burbank Teachers Association.

Crawford (R) retired from the 63rd District of the South Carolina House of Representatives shortly after winning re-election in 2014. He cited both family reasons and the re-organization of the state House as the basis for his decision.[1] According to The Nerve, the resignation may have been linked to their investigation into the state representative's campaign records and annual income-disclosure reports. The site's investigation alleges misuse of campaign funds, including payment for campaign work to a company owned by his wife and registered to Crawford's personal address.[2] Jay Jordan (R) is running unchallenged in the special general election to fill Crawford's vacancy.

Two seats on South Dakota's Sioux Falls School District School Board are up for general election. Incumbents Kate Parker and Todd Thoelke are running for re-election, with Randy Dobberpuhl also competing for the two at-large seats.[3]
