Elections on February 17 will include races to fill the seats of two Texas legislators who resigned to run for Mayor of San Antonio and an attempt by a Wisconsin mayor to add to his 18 years of service. Special elections will be held for a number of state legislative vacancies: one in Florida and four in Texas. Two of the Texas special elections were caused when incumbents resigned to run for Mayor of Texas later in 2015. Wisconsin's second-largest city, Madison, will hold a mayoral primary and a primary for two of its Common Council seats. Incumbent Mayor Paul Soglin is seeking his second consecutive term, after serving 18 combined years across three separate tenures. Voters across a number of Wisconsin counties will vote in judicial primaries for races where there are more than two candidates running for the same position.

In Wisconsin's nonpartisan judicial elections, a primary occurs if more than two candidates are running for the same position. Voters in Jackson, La Crosse, Lafayette and Sheboygan counties will see circuit court races on the ballot for the February 17 primary election. In these races, the two candidates who receive the most votes in the primary move on to the general election. Wisconsin's general election in 2015 will occur on April 7.[1]

Anna Becker was appointed to the Jackson County Circuit Court in August 2014. She seeks to retain her position on the court and is challenged by four candidates. She is a former court commissioner and district attorney. Her opponents are Daniel Diehn, Robyn Matousek, Mark A. Radcliffe and James C. Ritland.[2]

Dale Pasell served as a judge on the La Crosse County Circuit Court from 1999 until his retirement in late 2014. Brian K. Barton, Gloria L. Doyle and Candice Tlustosch filed to run for his position. On February 3, Governor Scott Walker appointed Candice Tlustosch to the vacancy, giving her the benefit of being the incumbent in the race, albeit an incumbent of only about a month.[3]

The Lafayette County Circuit Court will be getting a new judge for the first time since 1985, when Judge William Johnston was first elected. Four candidates hope to be the county's next circuit judge: Lafayette County District Attorney Kate Findley, sole practitioners Gayle Jebbia and Duane M. Jorgenson, and public defender Guy M. Taylor.[4][5][6][7]

Lastly, three hopefuls will compete for the position on the Sheboygan County Circuit Court currently held by Judge Terence Bourke, who is retiring when his term expires in July. Of the candidates, Catherine Quirk Delahunt and Matthew P. Mooney are both currently municipal court judges in Sheboygan County. Rebecca Persick, the third candidate, has served as a court commissioner on the county's circuit court since 2003.[8][9][10]
