2014

Osgood's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]

Whit will work to:
  • Control State spending and balance the State budget without the use of onetime gimmicks or bonding;
  • Create an environment that fosters the businesses growth and creates jobs;
  • Reduce the ever-growing State tax burden on individuals and businesses;
  • Increase the transparency of State government, so that residents are aware of decisions made by elected officials and can hold them accountable;
  • Reduce the State’s per capita indebtedness; and
  • Adequately fund our State pension system to meet the financial commitments made to our State employees and teachers.[2]

Elections for the Connecticut State Senate consisted of a primary election on August 12, 2014, and a general election on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 10, 2014. Incumbent Steve Cassano was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Whit Osgood was unopposed in the Republican primary. Cassano defeated Osgood in the general election.[3][4]
