Wilfred Feinberg (b. 1920-d. 2014) was a federal appeals judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit based in New York City. He joined the court in 1966 after being nominated by President Lyndon Johnson. At the time of his appointment, Feinberg served on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He joined the district court in 1962 after an appointment from John F. Kennedy. Feinberg assumed senior status on January 31, 1991. He served on senior status until he passed away on July 31, 2014.[1][2]

Early life and education

Feinberg graduated from Columbia University with his bachelor's degree in 1942 and with his law degree in 1946.[2]

Feinberg served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945.[2]

Second Circuit Court of Appeals

Feinberg was nominated by President Lyndon Johnson on January 19, 1966, to a seat vacated by Thurgood Marshall as Marshall was nominated to the Supreme Court of the United States. Feinberg was confirmed by the Senate on March 4, 1966, on a voice vote and received commission on March 7, 1966. Feinberg served as the chief judge of the court from 1980 to 1988 before later assuming senior status on January 31, 1991.[2] He was succeeded to this post by Dennis Jacobs. Feinberg served on the court until his passing on July 31, 2014.

Southern District of New York

Feinberg received a recess appointment from President John F. Kennedy on October 5, 1961, to a new seat created by 75 Stat. 80 which was approved by Congress. Feinberg was re-nominated by President Kennedy on January 15, 1962. Feinberg was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 16, 1962, on a voice vote and received commission on March 17, 1962. Feinberg left the Southern District of New York on March 7, 1966, due to his appointment to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.[2] He was succeeded to this post by Milton Pollack.
