Schmitz ran for election to the 306th District Court.
Primary: She was successful in the Republican primary on March 4, 2014, receiving 39.5 percent of the vote. She competed against Jennifer Burnett and Anne B. Darring.
Runoff: Because no candidate received more than 50% of the vote, Schmitz faced Darring in a runoff election on May 27, 2014. Schmitz was defeated, earning 45.5% of the vote.
