William Altenberger was a bankruptcy judge serving on the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of Illinois, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Illinois. He previously served on recalled status with the Central District of California. He first joined the federal bench as a judge on the Central District of Illinois on December 23, 1985. Altenberger was chief bankruptcy judge of that court from October 1993 to June 2000.[1][2][3]

Education

Altenberger received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois in 1957 and his J.D. from the University of Illinois in 1963.[1]

Military service

Altenberger served in the United States Air Force for three years.[1]

Career

Before joining the bankruptcy court, Altenberger was a partner with the firm Kavanagh, Scully, Sudow, White & Frederick, P.C.. in Peoria, Illinois.[1]
