William Altfield is a judge of the Florida 11th Circuit Court. He assumed office on August 29, 2019. His current term ends on January 2, 2029.

Altfield won re-election for judge of the Florida 11th Circuit Court outright in the general election on November 8, 2022, after the primary and general election were canceled.

He was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on August 29, 2019. Altfield succeeded Rodney Smith, who was elevated to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.[1]

Altfield was a judge on the Miami-Dade County Court from 2011 to 2019. He was appointed by Governor Rick Scott in August 2011 and was re-elected without opposition in 2014.[2][3][4]

Education

Altfield received his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and his J.D. from the University of Florida.[2]

Career

Before joining the county court, Altfield was a senior prosecutor with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office. He has also served as a special assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of Florida.[2]

Justin Bieber arrested for DUI

Pop star Justin Bieber was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol while speeding in Miami Beach. He was charged with a DUI, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license. Judge Joseph Farina ordered him held on $2,500 bond, which the singer quickly posted.[5]

The case was assigned to Judge Altfield.[6]
