William Araujo
William Araujo was a candidate for at-large representative on the Edison Township Public Schools school board in New Jersey. Araujo was defeated in the at-large general election on November 7, 2017.
Araujo ran for an at-large seat on the Edison school board in both 2016 and 2015 and lost in both elections.
Araujo was also a 2013 Independent candidate for Governor of New Jersey. He appeared alongside lieutenant gubernatorial running-mate Maria Salamanca on the general election ballot. The general election took place on November 5, 2013.[1][2]
Biography
Araujo's professional experience includes working as a carpenter at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. He has also served on the Edison Planning Board. [3]
Elections
2017
Four of the nine seats on the Edison Township Public Schools school board in New Jersey were up for at-large general election on November 7, 2017. Three seats were up for regular three-year terms and one seat was up for a one-year unexpired term. A total of 11 candidates filed for the seats.
Board members Beth Moroney and Jingwei Shi won new three-year terms on the board and were joined in their victory by Falguni Patel. They defeated Carol Bodofsky, Elizabeth Conway, Ruchika Juneja, Aqib Virani, Sunil Vuppula, and Maria Wise. Board member Paul Distefano defeated challenger William Araujo for the one-year term.[4]

Araujo did not report campaign contributions or expenditures in this election as of October 17, 2017, according to the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.[5]
2016
Three of the nine seats on the Edison Township Public Schools school board were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. Theresa Ward was the sole incumbent to run for re-election. Ward, Richard Brescher, and Xiaohan Peng defeated William Araujo for the three seats up for election. Nilesh Dasondi originally filed to run but withdrew from the race before the election.[6]

Funding
Araujo reported $20,877.27 in contributions and $18,039.76 in expenditures to the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission, which left his campaign with $2,837.51 in the election.[7]
2015
Three seats on the Edison Township school board were up for general election on November 3, 2015. The seats of incumbents Deborah Anes, Lora L. Fong, and Margot Harris were on the ballot.[8] Anes won re-election, while newcomers Ralph Errico and Shivi Prasad-Madhukar joined the board. They defeated William Araujo, Richard Brescher, Hollie Gilroy, Dennis Pipala, Deborah Schildkraut, and Kiel Thoms. Anes, Pipala, and Schildkraut were running as a slate.[9][10]

Araujo did not receive any official endorsements in this election.
2013
Araujo ran for Governor of New Jersey in 2013. He originally filed for the Democratic primary election but ultimately did not qualify for the primary ballot,[1] so he re-entered the race as an independent candidate.[12] Araujo selected Maria Salamanca for his lieutenant gubernatorial running-mate, and they ran on a single ticket in the general election on November 5, 2013. The pair lost to incumbents Chris Christie and Kim Guadagno.

They defeated the Buono/Silva (D), Kaplan/Bell (L), Welzer/Alessandrini (I), Sare/Todd (I), Araujo/Salamanca (I), Schroeder/Moschella (I) and Boss/Thorne (I) ticket(s) in the general election.
