William Batchelder
William G. Batchelder (b. December 19, 1942) is the former Republican Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, representing District 69 from 2006 to December 31, 2014.
Batchelder represented District 81 from 1969 to 1999 and served as Speaker Pro Tempore from 1995 to 1998.
Batchelder was ineligible to run for re-election to the House in 2014 because of term-limits. Upon his exit from the legislature, Batchelder began serving as executive in residence at the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and a distinguished visiting chair at the University of Akron.[1]
Batchelder died on February 12, 2022.[2]
Biography
Batchelder earned his B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University and his J.D. from the Ohio State University College of Law. His professional experience included working at the Williams and Batchelder Law Firm for 31 years, as a judge on the Ninth District Court of Appeals, and for the Common Pleas Court in Medina County. He served as a Private First Class in the United States Army.[3]

Batchelder won re-election in the 2012 election for Ohio House, District 69. Batchelder was unopposed in the March 6 Republican primary election and defeated Judith A. Cross (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[4][5][6]
2010
Batchelder won re-election to District 69 of the Ohio House of Representatives.[7] His opponent was Jack Schira (D). The election took place on November 2, 2010.[8][9]
