William Brash
William Brash was a judge for District I of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. He assumed office on December 11, 2015. He left office on July 31, 2023.
Brash ran for re-election for the District I judge of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals. He lost in the general election on April 4, 2023.
Brash was appointed to the court by Republican Governor Scott Walker on October 28, 2015, effective December 11, 2015. He succeeded Rebecca Bradley, who was appointed to the Wisconsin Supreme Court on October 9, 2015.[1]
The Wisconsin Supreme Court appointed Brash chief judge of the Wisconsin Court of Appeals, effective August 1, 2021. He replaced Judge Lisa Neubauer.[2]
Education
Brash received his B.A. from St. Norbert College and his J.D. from Marquette University Law School in 1978.[3]
Career
Judge Brash was an attorney in private practice for 24 years and served as a municipal judge in the Village of Fox Point, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.[4] He left the municipal bench in 1997 and ran unsuccessfully for circuit court judge.[5] Brash served 17 years as a municipal judge, spending 13 years with the Village of Fox Point and four years as reserve municipal judge for Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. On January 1, 2002, Governor Scott McCallum appointed Brash to complete retired Judge Stanley Miller's term on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court.[6] Brash was elected to another six-year term on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in 2014, but left the court when he was appointed to the court of appeals in 2015.[7]

The primary election was canceled. Incumbent William Brash and Sara Geenen advanced from the primary for Wisconsin Court of Appeals District I.

Judge Brash filed to stand for election in 2017 in order to remain on the bench for a full six-year term.[8] Brash won re-election unopposed on April 4, 2017.
