William P. Dimitrouleas (b. 1951) is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He joined the court in 1998 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Prior to appointment, Dimitrouleas was a circuit court judge in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, Dimitrouleas graduated from Furman University with his bachelor's degree in 1973 and later from the University of Florida College of Law with his Juris Doctor degree in 1975.[1]
Professional career
Dimitrouleas began his legal career as a Assistant Public Defender in the Florida Public Defender's Office assisting low-income and indigent clients from 1976 to 1977. In 1977, Dimitrouleas became Assistant State Attorney for the Florida State Attorney's Office from 1977 to 1989. In 1989, Dimitrouleas served as Circuit Court Judge in the 17th Judicial Circuit Court of Florida until his appointment to the Federal bench in 1998.[1]
Judicial career
Southern District of Florida
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Bob Graham, Dimitrouleas was nominated to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida by President Bill Clinton on January 27, 1998 to a seat vacated by Norman Roettger. Dimitrouleas was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 14, 1998 on a Senate vote and received commission on May 22, 1998.[2]
