William Field
William Field was a 2013 Democratic candidate for District 30 of the New Jersey State Senate.[1]
Biography
Field received his Ph.D. in political science from Brandeis University. He is a professor of Political Science at Rutger's University.[2]

In an interview with The Daily Targum, Field discussed his campaign priorities:[2]
- Education
"Two-thirds of the running cost of Rutgers came from state allocations in 1980. Today its about 25 to 27 percent. The legislature does not seem to understand that Rutgers and higher education really are the future of New Jersey."
- Business
"Businesses are leaving the state whenever they can. We have the fourth highest unemployment in the country, but I just don’t see anybody really focusing on how to shape the state to move us forward. The politicians really do create the culture and environment in which the economy flourishes."

Excerpt: "We need tax relief- NJ needs to stop subsidizing other states if it continues to burden taxpayers."

Excerpt: "We need someone in Trenton who can build the new New Jersey. We need someone who can harness the power of our universities -- Rutgers, NJIT, Georgian Court, Stevens. -- and create the new entrepreneurial economy. I am that person."

Excerpt: "Rising sea levels, increasingly ferocious storms, and extreme weather are already a reality and our shore towns are suffering. The cost of raising all houses is exorbitant but we can't afford to rebuild as if Sandy was an anomaly. We need new ideas for protecting our shore."

Field ran in the 2013 election for New Jersey State Senate District 30. Field was unopposed in the June 4 Democratic primary. He was defeated by incumbent Robert Singer (R) in the general election on November 5, 2013.[3][4][5][6]

Field lives with his wife, Sue, in Howell, New Jersey. They have one daughter.
Field has been active in his town's public schools system, forming a parent's advocacy group and serving on the Howell Board of Education Finance Committee for two years. He also serves on the board of directors of the Central Atlantic Conference of the United Church of Christ.[2]
