William Guerrero, AKA “The Kid From Pilsen”, I was born and raised in Pilsen. I come from a single parent household and I am the oldest of four siblings. Having the role of being the oldest and biggest support for my dad made me realize how necessary it is to have a strong community around me. My love for the community has led me to coach kids at Harrison Park, and provide them with a sense of community that I found when I was a kid. I am a Multidisciplinary Artist with a focus on documenting the stories in my community; our struggles, our hopes, and our successes. I love to build relationships with community members because those relationships are at the core of what it means to help people. In addition to my love for the arts, I organize events such as Open Mics, Pop Ups, and Peace Initiatives for young people and the community as a whole.
  • I Believe that the young people need to be at the table and part of the conversation when it comes to our Public Safety. We need to ensure that young people like William are uplifted and heard at all levels.
  • I Believe that anyone running for candidacy and our public servants should be held accountable and should be transparent to the communities they serve. Effective communication and clear motives will help us.
  • I Believe that our city can be the change when it comes to making our communities safer through active communication and collaboration.
I believe in Treatment not Trauma. I believe that if we can continue to invest more in our communities it can help those with ideas and organizations to help prevent the violence and continue to provide active pathways for our children to pursue their dreams in anyway possible. I believe that when we invest in our communities it will help our residents who are born and raised in the city of Chicago to stay in the city of Chicago. I know that for a fact that accountability and transparency of our elected officials and our public servants lead to having a positive impact and increased safety in the communities.
The fact that this Office is the first office to have a chance for community residents to be elected in the oversight-committte for the first time in the United States of America. This gives community residents the opportunity to hold public servants accountable and take in account what community members say what their safety means to them. This is about making sure that we can find a way to work with all definitions of public safety and how we can implement those definition into action.
My dad. The story of what he has done to give the present and future to my siblings and I for a better life continues to motivate me. Every time there is a moment where I'm thinking about throwing in the towel, I remember my father. If you get knocked down 7 times then you get up 8. It's about consistency. It's about Passion. It's about being a human being. It's about getting up early in the morning and hustling to provide for your family and community at all times. I look up to my siblings because I need to do every action with intention to give them a better future for them and their kids. It would be a disservice to sit around and do nothing when we are constantly facing challenges in our community. We must lead with heart and compassion always. I look up to my community, specifically Pilsen, how hard people have fought to stay in the Pilsen community. The beauty of the art and food that we have here. We have culture in this neighborhood. We have it all.
The fact that I can listen. The fact that I'm able to take on Accountability. The ability to being transparent is also crucial as well. The fact that I'm young and with a lot of energy to serve the community that has raised me. The fact that I'm passionate.
To be transparent. To take on accountability. To listen at all times and speak when it is needed.
Obama being the first President of Color was the first historical event I can remember witnessing. I was 7 years old.
My very first job was becoming a Photographer. I've started since I was 17 and to this present day.
The Marathon Continues: A Hood Tale of Nipsey Hussle, the title speaks for itself.
I believe that this office should be led by those who are active in their communities having a positive impact long-term. Lived Experiences is what counts here. Those that continue to advocate in the face of harsh challenges and overcome those challenges should take place in this office. I also believe that more young people should take a chance at this office.
