Layden, Jr. ran for election to the 18th District Court.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 33.8 percent of the vote. He competed against Tim Mills. [2]

Contest of candidacy

Layden's opponent, Tim Mills, contested his candidacy. Layden, who is a former special judge, was terminated after he was indicted by the Oklahoma Multicounty Grand Jury on charges of conspiracy surrounding his involvement with a state investigation into the District 18 Drug Court. Mills said that if he couldn't confirm that Layden was removed due to disciplinary proceedings from the Oklahoma Bar Association and the Administrative Office of the Courts, he would readily withdraw his contest. There was a hearing on the contest on April 21st at 9:30 a.m. in the state Capitol, where it was determined that Layden should remain on the ballot.[3][4]
