William Thomas Hart was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He joined the court in 1982 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. His service ended on January 17, 2022, upon his death.[1]

Early life and education

A Chicagoland native, Hart graduated from Loyola-Chicago Law School in 1951.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of Illinois

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Charles Percy, Hart was nominated to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois by President Ronald Reagan on March 11, 1982 to a seat vacated by John Crowley. Hart was confirmed by the Senate on April 20, 1982 on a Senate vote and received commission on April 21, 1982. Hart applied to President Bill Clinton in 1996 for senior status, and assumed senior status on June 1, 1996. His service ended on January 17, 2024 upon his death.[1] Hart was succeeded in this position by Rebecca Pallmeyer.
