Campaign themes
2014
Hornbarger's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]
2nd Amendment
- Excerpt: "I am a strong proponent of the 2nd Amendment and our right to bear arms. I will see that our rights are not infringed."
Pro-Life
- Excerpt: "I believe in the protection of the unborn and that life begins at conception. I will support organizations that support giving life and not abortions."
Property Taxes
- Excerpt: "I want to see property tax reform. I don’t believe our property should be held ransom in order to collect taxes. I don’t think our retirees should be burdened with increasing taxes, or the thought of losing the homes they have worked for so long to own. I support HB76/SB76 Property Tax Independence Act with adjustments that will ensure our schools are adequately funded."
Pension Reform
- Excerpt: "The longer a plan goes without making structural reform, the more its liabilities accumulate. Money that is obligated to pay for pensions cannot be used to reduce taxes or fund public programs as it has in the past causing the debt to accumulate."
Balanced Budget
- Excerpt: "A balanced budget is a must. We must make the tough choices and cut government spending in as many areas as possible, and not continue as if it's business as usual. Each year’s budget needs to be at or below the state’s current revenue without more burdening taxes. We must start applying some of the revenue toward the $130+ billion debt we currently have."
