I am running for state representative to bring a principled voice to our statehouse. For too long career politicians, activists, and professorial ideologues have provided us with poor leadership, high taxes, and dysfunctional state government. The General Assembly refused to convene for three months when we needed them the most. While most families are forced to tighten their budget during this uncertain time, our state leaders hastily met and in less than a week, passed a supplemental budget that increased their spending by nearly 20% to $11.8 billion just before the end of the fiscal year - without addressing the obvious the revenue shortfall our state is facing. On November 3rd, vote for the candidate who will fight to stop special interests from taking your money and your rights. Vote for William J. Hunt Jr. for District 68
My goal is to be an independent voice for liberty and smaller government in the Rhode Island state house. Our state has an $11.8 Billion budget which is way out of line with other states like New Hampshire and Deleware - who operate a lot more efficiently than our state does. Even with this bloated budget, we cannot control our spending so we have an $800 Million deficit. I believe we need to seriously cut spending to lower the tax burden for both individuals and corporations. Most of the regulatory bodies which drive the costs up for businesses to operate in this state could easily be eliminated. This would not only reduce our state spending but would make our state more attractive to open and grow a business which would in turn create greater opportunity for our residents.
I really admire and look up to my father. He is a hard-working small-business owner who volunteers his time by serving on various non-profit boards and for his community. He has raised four successful children and has been married to my mother for over 45 years. I am happy to share his name and can only hope I can live up to his example.
The first event I really can remember is Hurricane Bob in 1991. I was eight years old at the time and remember the destruction after the storm and going to help rescue my neighbor's boats off the beach in Portsmouth.
My first job was at the old KMart in Middletown when I was 16 years old. I worked there for about two years until it shut down because the new Wal Mart opened down at JT Connel Highway in Newport.
I then went on to work for Del's Lemonade, before working my way through college at Newport Lobster Company.
