Speare ran for election to the 13th District Court.
Primary: He was successful in the primary on June 3, 2014, receiving 22.0 percent of the vote. He competed against Corbit S. Harrington, Michael Glen Moses (incumbent), Bill O'Connor and Rod Souza.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 44.5 percent of the vote. He competed against Rod Souza.

Education
Speare received his bachelor's degree in political science from Montana State University, and his J.D. from the University of Montana School of Law.[3]
Career
Speare has worked in private practice and as a prosecutor.[3]
