As a true South Eastsider, I do not run from challenges I run towards opportunities which is why I am running to represent District 20 for City-County Council. As a formerly elected township board member, I know the importance of listening to residents to make sound decisions. Being a business owner and employer, I understand the distinguished level of responsibility and duty to have people counting on you. Now is the time for leadership that measures and balances the needs of every person in District 20, and this can only be achieved by working together.
One of the more pressing areas is access to affordable housing. Indianapolis is currently facing a housing crisis, and we must find innovative ways to help alleviate the burden on renters. We can do this with stronger tenant protection ordinances. Most importantly, we can also give safeguards against rent rises and discriminatory practices. Another option is to expand the inclusionary zoning process by mandating developers to incorporate affordable housing units in new constructions or pay into a fund to assist affordable housing.
