William J. Lavery was a judge of the Connecticut Appellate Court. He became an appellate court judge October 4, 1989 and retired, assuming senior status November 1, 2007.[1]

Education

William Lavery was born on March 26, 1938, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He earned an A.B. degree from Fairfield University in 1959 and his law degree (LL.B.) from Fordham Law School in 1964. In 1960 and 1961, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a state representative from 1967 to 1971. He was on the Connecticut Medical Regional Planning Board from 1977 to 1979.[1]

Career

William Lavery was an attorney for the Bridgeport Housing Authority from 1969 to 1972. From 1971 to 1973, he was the counsel for the Majority Party of the House of Representatives. He worked as the attorney for the town of Newtown from 1976 to 1981. Throughout his career, he was involved with multiple leadership committees and boards. He was elected to the Connecticut Superior Court in 1981, where he served until his appointment to the Court of Appeals in 1989. From March of 2000 through January of 2006, he was the chief appellate judge. He was then named the chief court administrator until November of 2007, when he became a senior appellate judge.[1]
