William Moorman is a federal judge on senior status with the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. He joined the court on November 20, 2004, following a nomination from President George W. Bush.[1]

Education

Moorman earned his B.A. in history and economics in 1967 from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1970.[1]

Military service

Moorman joined the United States Air Force out of college ROTC in 1970 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He went on to earn the rank of Major General and served as the Air Force's Judge Advocate General. He was serving in the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. Moorman retired from active duty in April 2002. Moorman received a number of prestigious honors in his career including:

  • Superior Service Medal with oak leaf cluster
  • Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster
  • Joint Meritorious Service Medal
  • Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters[1]

Professional career

  • 2004: Acting Assistant Secretary for Management for the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • 2002-2004: Assistant to the Secretary for Regulation Policy and Management, Department of Veterans Affairs[1]

Judicial career

Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims

Moorman was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims by President George W. Bush and was confirmed by the Senate. He joined the court on November 20, 2004. He elected to take senior status on August 31, 2015.[1]
