I endeavor every day to be a principled, pragmatic leader who will stand up for strong ethical standards for Illinois elected officials, good-paying jobs, and protections for working families against the big shots who don't understand what it's like to live in today's difficult economy.

A firm believer in the idea that it's the people who matter, not the politicians, I have dedicated myself to serving others – both as a resident and in my public life. I have worked in the Illinois Governor’s Office, served as a township trustee, and been active in my community through my local historical society and education foundation, and by helping new voices be heard in the political process.

The people of the 79th District are tired of hearing candidates try to separate rich from poor, urban from rural. I will not play political games: I’ll stand up for what's right and never forget that the government exists to help everyday people get a fair shake.

  • Create good-paying jobs across the 79th District
  • Provide economic relief for working families
  • Fight for strong ethical standards for Illinois public officials
We need to get back to basics. That means making it easier to raise a family in the 79th District. That means providing quality healthcare, so that adult children don't feel like they have to give up everything to assist an aging parent. That means protecting a woman's right to choose, and keeping our communities safe. And it means standing behind our servicemembers, first responders, and veterans who have done so much to keep us safe.

A large number of people believe that the government doesn't work for them. And in many cases, it doesn't. We need to bring government closer to the people with strong ethical standards for elected officials and by delivering quality healthcare, good schools, and a safe neighborhood. And we need to remember that this is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
My grandfather was a Teamster for many years, and was married to my grandmother for 54 years. He served his country during the Korean conflict. He raised four children. He worked with his hands, built things; he would do anything for his family and was fair to anyone he came in contact with. He was wise but quiet, and liked a good laugh. It's people like him, and others like him in my family, who inspire me to be better every day, and to treat everyone with fairness and respect.
Curiosity. Humility. A sense of fairness. Courage to do what's right.
"Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift. Everyone in public life can learn something from Taylor's exhortation to shake it off and keep moving.
It's beneficial to have all sorts of people in the legislature. As a township trustee, I come from the most grassroots level of government, helping serve people who have fallen through the cracks by providing transportation to healthcare appointments, providing youth services like our youth program (which the Township Officials of Illinois awarded as being the best in the state) and senior services, general and emergency assistance to those in need, and more.
You have to build relationships, and prove that you are good to your word, in order to be effective. Trust is important in public service – it's hard to gain, and easy to lose.
Yes. Policymakers must stay true to their values and work in good faith to solve problems with people whose backgrounds are vastly different than theirs. It's not about getting credit; it's about getting the job done for people.
