William Morvant
William Morvant (Republican Party) was a judge for Section 3, Division E of the Louisiana 19th Judicial District Court. He assumed office on January 1, 1997. He left office in 2021.
Morvant (Republican Party) won re-election for the Section 3, Division E judge of the Louisiana 19th Judicial District Court outright in the primary on November 3, 2020, after the primary and general election were canceled.
Morvant retired from the bench at the end of 2021.[1]

Louisiana elections use the majority-vote system. All candidates compete in the same primary, and a candidate can win the election outright by receiving more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate does, the top two vote recipients from the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their partisan affiliation.

As an unopposed candidate, he was automatically re-elected without appearing on the ballot.

Morvant ran for the seat of retiring Chief Justice Catherine Kimball on the Louisiana Supreme Court. He was defeated on November 6, 2012, after receiving 10.7% of the vote.[3][4]

Education
Morvant received his B.S. from Spring Hill College and his J.D. from Louisiana State University prior to being admitted to the bar in 1985.[6]
Career
Prior to joining the court, Morvant was an attorney, then partner, with the firm Shows, Cohn & Cali.[7]
