An election to recall Grant County Circuit Court Judge William Reinecke was held on May 11, 1982. Voters retained Reinecke.[1]

Recall vote

Reinecke was retained with 50.85% of the vote. Reinecke ran against James Dahlquist and Norman Kvalheim in the recall election.[1][2]

Recall supporters

The recall effort was initiated following a remark Reinecke made during the sentencing of a man convicted of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl. Reinecke said, "I am satisfied we have an unusually sexually promiscuous young lady, and he did not know enough to refuse." Reinecke sentenced the man to probation and a 90-day work-release jail term.[1]

A group called Citizens for Children organized the recall effort.[1]
