William F. Rylaarsdam was an associate justice on the Fourth District, Division Three of the California Courts of Appeal. He was appointed by Governor Pete Wilson and took the oath of office on April 10, 1995.[1] He ran for retention in 2014, winning a new term that expires on January 3, 2027.[2][3]Justice Rylaarsdam retired in 2016.[4]

Education

Rylaarsdam received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1957 and received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1964. In 1998, he received his L.L.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law.[5]

Career

Rylaarsdam began his legal career in 1964 as an attorney practicing civil litigation. He was a civil litigator in Los Angeles, Pasadena and Newport Beach until 1985, when Governor George Deukmejian appointed him to the Los Angeles Superior Court. In 1986, he was appointed to the Orange County Superior Court. He serve on that court until his appointment to the California Fourth District Court of Appeal in 1995.[5]

Publications

Rylaarsdam co-authored two text books, California Civil Procedure Before Trial and California Civil Procedure Before Trial: Statutes of Limitations.[5]
