I am a public defender, father, and geek running to dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline, protect our most vulnerable students, and promote public education in a state that has been hostile to public schools since I was in grade school. As an attorney, I have the critical thinking skills necessary to remain open but skeptical when presented with information. I will be an independent voice on the board. As a father, I care deeply about all TUSD students, especially our most vulnerable students. Right now, in the current political climate, I would say our most vulnerable students are our LGBTQIA+ kids, our BIPOC kids, our kids with disabilities, and any student who could become pregnant. As a geek, I value creativity and learning. I know learning can be fun, and I want to share that love of learning with all TUSD students.
  • Dismantle the School-to-Prison Pipeline! Overpolicing and reactionary discipline has led to a reality where children -- especially children of color, children with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ children -- are targeted by law enforcement, become involved in the juvenile justice system, and eventually the adult justice system. That's when I meet them at the Public Defender's Office. We need to break this cycle.
  • Protect our most vulnerable students! Our LGBTQIA+ kids, our BIPOC kids, our kids with disabilities, and any student who could become pregnant.
  • Promote Public Schools! The Arizona Legislature has been hostile to public education my entire life. They cut funding to schools then ask why public schools are struggling. They use this to justify further cuts. We need to support our teachers and staff. We need to hear from our teachers' unions. We need to stand up to the state and make TUSD a district we can be proud of.
I'm passionate about providing an environment for our children to thrive, to grow into the best versions of themselves that they can be. I'm passionate about speaking for those who don't have any other way to be heard. I'm passionate about learning.
Impossible to pick! At the moment I'm encouraging everyone I know to read N.K. Jemisin's "The City We Became." But for comfort, I'd choose "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien. Possibly the work that most influenced my life has been the inappropriately named "Hitchhiker Trilogy" by Douglas Adams.
Most fictional characters with any real depth are required to suffer for the sake of the narrative. I don't envy any of them.

But assimilation and artificial heart aside, it'd be kinda cool to be Captain Jean Luc Picard.
Hi, Hungry. I'm Dad.
