William Standish was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Standish served on senior status until passing away on January 1, 2015.[1]

Education

A native Pennsylvanian, Standish graduated from Yale University with his bachelor's degree in 1953 and later graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law with his law degree in 1956.[2]

Professional career

Standish was a private practice attorney in the State of Pennsylvania from 1956 to 1980, prior to becoming a lower court judge in the Court of Common Pleas in the Fifth Judicial District of Pennsylvania from 1980 to 1987.[2]

Western District of Pennsylvania

On the unanimous recommendation of Pennsylvania U.S. Senators Arlen Specter and John Heinz III, Standish was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on July 1, 1987, to a seat vacated by Barron P. McCune. He was confirmed by the Senate on November 5, 1987, and received commission on November 6, 1987. Assumed senior status on March 1, 2002 where he served until passing away on January 1, 2015.[1]
