William Thompson (South Dakota)
William Thompson (b. February 13, 1944) was a Democratic member of the South Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 13. Thompson joined the South Dakota State House of Representatives in 2003. He served in that position until 2011. In 2010, Thompson was ineligible to run under South Dakota's term limits.
Thompson earned his B.A. from Northern State University in 1967. He went on to receive his M.A. from the University of Kansas in 1973.
Thompson was an Assistant Instructor/Research Assistant for the University of Kansas from 1970 to 1974. He then worked as a University Associate in Rhetoric at the University of Illinois from 1980 to 1981. From 1990 to 1991, he was an Independent Scholar for National Endowment for the Humanities. He also worked as a Teacher at Sioux Falls Lincoln High from 1968 to 1970 and from 1974 to 2001. Thompson and his wife, Anne, have two children.
