William Wood (Democratic Party) is a judge for District 24D of the North Carolina 4th Superior Court Division. Wood assumed office on January 1, 2024. Wood's current term ends on December 31, 2026.
Wood (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for judge of the North Carolina 5th Superior Court Division Judicial District 18. Wood won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Wood was initially appointed to the Fifth Division of the North Carolina Superior Court in 2018.[1] In 2018, the North Carolina General Assembly passed House Bill 717, revising the state superior court, district court, and prosecutorial districts. Wood's seat on the Fifth Division was absorbed into the Fourth Division, effective January 1, 2019.
The North Carolina Superior Courts are split into five divisions and 48 districts. Superior court judges rotate among the districts within their division every six months.[2] However, superior court judges are elected by voters in their district and must reside in the district in which they are elected.[3]
Education
Wood received an undergraduate degree from Lenoir-Rhyne University and his J.D. from the North Carolina Central School of Law.[1]

Wood served for nearly 30 years in the Guilford County District Attorney's office as an assistant district attorney specializing in prosecuting violent crimes.[1]
