William Zastera
William B. Zastera was a judge for the District 2 Court in Nebraska. He joined the court in 1997, and began presiding over the Sarpy County Adult Drug Court in 2006.[1] Zastera retired on October 1, 2017.[2]
Biography
Zastera graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1968 and the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1969. He then received his J.D. from the Creighton University School of Law in 1971. Zastera began his career in 1972 as a deputy Otoe County attorney, a Syracuse city attorney, and a private practice lawyer. He left the Otoe County position in 1974, but continued to work in Syracuse and in the private practice until 1991. He also worked as a city attorney for Talmage (1976-1991) and Palmyra (1979-1991), and was an Otoe County Public Defender from 1986 to 1991. In 1991, he was appointed a county court judge in the 2nd Judicial District. He was promoted to district court judge in 1997.[1]

Zastera was retained in the general election on November 6, winning 71.56 percent of the vote.[3][4]
2012 judicial performance evaluation
Every two years, the Nebraska State Bar Association compiles responses from lawyers to evaluate judges in the state. Subjects are rated in seven categories, then a determination is made for whether the judge should be retained. The seven categories considered are: legal analysis; impartiality; attentiveness; opinions; judicial temperament and demeanor; appropriate communication; and timeliness.
