Willy Gort
Willy Gort was a member of the Miami Board of Commissioners in Florida. He served two separate tenures on the board. He first served from 1993 to 2001. He resigned in 2001 to run for Mayor of Miami, but lost in the general election. Gort returned to the board in a special election in 2010 and served until 2019.[1]
In 1996, the Miami Board of Commissioners elected Gort to serve as the Vice-Mayor of Miami. He briefly served as Mayor of Miami that same year.[2]

The city of Miami, Florida, held elections for the city council on November 3, 2015. A runoff, if necessary, took place on November 17, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was September 19, 2015. In the race for District 1, incumbent Willy Gort defeated Miguel Angel Gabela in a rematch of a 2010 special election won by Gort.[3]
