Wilson Fields (Democratic Party) is a judge for the 2nd District of the Louisiana 1st Circuit Court of Appeal. He assumed office on March 19, 2025. His current term ends on December 31, 2030.
Fields (Democratic Party) won election for the 2nd District judge of the Louisiana 1st Circuit Court of Appeal outright in the primary on March 29, 2025, after the primary and general election were canceled.
Biography
Wilson Fields received his undergraduate degree in business management from Southern University in 1991 and his J.D. from Southern University Law Center in 1994. He also received his master of law degree from Tulane Law School in 2003.[1][2] Fields was elected to the Baton Rouge City Council while in law school. He was then elected to the Louisiana State Senate on November 18, 1995 (effective in 1996). He represented District 15 in that capacity until his judicial election.[3] He also worked as a private practice lawyer during that time. In 2001, he was elected to the district court. He also taught as an adjunct professor at Southern University Law Center and served as a judge advocate general (JAG) officer in the Louisiana Army National Guard.[1][2]

Louisiana elections use the majority-vote system. All candidates compete in the same primary, and a candidate can win the election outright by receiving more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate does, the top two vote recipients from the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their partisan affiliation.
