WinRed is an online platform that raises funds for Republican candidates. It was founded in 2019 as a response to the Democratic fundraising platform ActBlue. WinRed has called itself "the #1 fundraising technology used by conservatives" and said it was "supported by a united front of the Trump campaign, RNC, RSLC, NRSC, and NRCC."[1][2]

According to the WinRed website, "Donations made on our platform go to the WinRed PAC and then get transfered directly to the candidate you want it to go to."[1]

History

WinRed was founded in June 2019 as a response to the digital fundraising work done by ActBlue for Democratic candidates. Shortly after its creation, WinRed was officially endorsed by President Donald Trump's (R) re-election campaign.[3]

In an effort to get all candidates for federal office using the new platform, the Republican National Committee announced in July 2019 it would not offer financial or other support to candidates who did not use WinRed.[4]

Originally only a fundraising option for candidates for federal office, WinRed announced on April 17, 2020, “Starting now, EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN seeking office will be able to tap into the same tools that help President Trump and hundreds of other Republicans in Congress raise money from small-dollar donors.”[2] According to The Hill, the organization was “teaming up with the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) to expand its platform to all Republican candidates.”[5]

Work and activities

Candidate contributions

WinRed is an online fundraising platform, meaning it does not donate money to candidates. Instead, it serves as a conduit, processing donations to a campaign and then giving them to that particular candidate. Users can also purchase merchandise from various candidates. WinRed reported that six times as many candidates and party organizations in 2024 created pages on the fundraising platform to receive donations as during the 2020 election cycle.[6]

2019

According to its website, WinRed raised more than $300,000 in contributions for Dan Bishop's (R) victory in the special election for North Carolina's 9th Congressional District. The money came from 12,000 donations from individuals in all 50 states and six U.S. territories.[7]

2022

During the 2022 midterms, WinRed processed $1.2 billion in donations from 2.5 million individual donors over the course of the election cycle.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; name cannot be a simple integer.
