The Wisconsin Allow the State Legislature to Suspend Rules from State Agencies Amendment may appear on the ballot in Wisconsin as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment in 2027. The earliest possible election date for the constitutional amendment is April 6, 2027.[1]

The ballot measure would grant the state legislature the authority to suspend any rule or part of a rule established by state executive agencies, either indefinitely or for specified periods of time.[1]

A simple majority vote is required during two legislative sessions for the Wisconsin State Legislature to place a constitutional amendment on the ballot. That amounts to a minimum of 50 votes in the Wisconsin State Assembly and 17 votes in the Wisconsin State Senate, assuming no vacancies. Amendments do not require the governor's signature to be referred to the ballot.

  • January 29, 2026: The constitutional amendment was introduced as Assembly Joint Resolution 133 (AJR 133).
  • February 12, 2026: The Wisconsin State Assembly voted 52-45 to pass the constitutional amendment, with two members not voting.
  • February 25, 2026: The Wisconsin State Senate voted 18-15 to pass the constitutional amendment.
