For too long, lawmakers have whittled away at our freedoms. Part of the American promise is that our vote is more powerful than any politician. Instead, we have elected officials and candidates who refuse to acknowledge the will of voters and are actively finding ways to silence our voices. Wisconsinites overwhelmingly support non-partisan legislative redistricting, abortion access, and fully funding public education. Frankly, Wisconsinites value democracy. GOP Assembly leaders refuse to listen to Wisconsinites and act on our shared values.

Wisconsinites believe in the right to an education, support public education, and want to see their schools fully funded. When our state government doesn’t meet its obligation to fully fund public education, school districts are forced to hold referendums to fill budget gaps. This is unacceptable. Public education is the bedrock of a civil society. For our children to thrive, we must fully fund public education and support the teachers, social workers, counselors and support staff who are educating our children.

Wisconsinites are overwhelmingly united in their belief that abortion should not be criminalized. Unresponsive GOP lawmakers are placating their base and endangering the lives of Wisconsin women. This is unacceptable. Two special sessions and multiple bills have attempted to change the 1849 Wisconsin abortion law to reflect the will of the people, but GOP Assembly leaders refuse to meet or to listen to Wisconsinites and act on this key issue. We need an assembly that represents and responds to Wisconsinites.
Everyone deserves access to quality, affordable housing, because shelter is a human right, and we know stable housing is a launching pad to stability in other areas of life. I have spent my time on the Oregon Village Board and as the Vice-Chair of the Oregon Housing Coalition, working with a broad group of people in our village to champion housing policy that seeks out a diverse offering of housing options that is right for our community.
