My decision to run comes from a deep love for Royal Oak. Its an amazing city and community where I have been able to raise an incredible family. This city has been home to me and my family for nearly 20 years. Over that time, we’ve watched Royal Oak grow and evolve. I’ve been invested in helping guide that growth in a way that honors our community’s values and future. . I’m hoping to continue that work in a more impactful way. I believe in a forward-thinking, inclusive Royal Oak that works for everyone.

I am a proud Michigan State University Spartan, where I earned a degree in construction management and I am a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) . I own and operate a small business based in Royal Oak focused on sustainable design and construction. I have served in an Executive role with a large construction management firm, with revenues similar to Royal Oak’s total annual budget. This experience allowed me to understand the challenges of leading a complex organization and how to reach shared goals.

My commitment to Royal Oak runs deep. I’ve had the privilege of serving on the Planning Commission, for 5 years, and the Environmental Advisory Board, for 7 years, where I’ve worked to promote thoughtful development, sustainability, and responsible stewardship of our city’s resources.
  • The first priority for any local leader is exceptional public services and public safety. I am proud to have the endorsement of the Royal Oak Police Officers Association. Royal Oak is one of the safest cities in the country and I am committed to making sure they will always have the resources to continue to keep our community safe.
  • Like many communities Royal Oak has a housing challenge. We need more housing for more families, in all stages of life. Our new Master Plan 2050 calls for thoughtful planning and development to help meet the needs of the community.
  • One of the best assets our city has is our amazing parks and greenspaces. I am committed to making sure we dedicate the resources need to sustainably protect and continue to improve our parks, water and greenspaces.
My background is in sustainable design and construction. I helped create the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan and am proud that Royal Oak is tackling climate change head on.
We experience polices that are created at a State and Federal level everyday, at the local level. Understanding what is happening at those levels is critical to understanding how to best prepare our own city.
My late father. He was the kindest and most patient person I have ever known.
A willingness to listen to the community, experts and others when weighing decisions is critical. We have a community of 60,000 people and a good leader must weigh what is best for the largest part of our community. We can never make decisions that will please everyone, but it is imperative to understand what the community needs and compromise when necessary, for the benefit of all.
The primary responsibility for a City Commissioner is to establish a responsible budget. Everything else a city does, or is able to do, comes from this baseline. It is essential to have a good understanding of what revenue and resources are coming in and deploy those resources in a thoughtful, yet forward looking, manner.
That I did what I could to help those around me.
Like many young people of my time, I had a paper route. The Detroit Free Press to be exact. I was about 8 years old. It did not last long as my dad grew tired of having to complete my route for me.
In Royal Oak our city commission only has authority over the City Manager, City Attorney and City Clerk. The city commission does not direct city staff.
It is absolutely critical to have some level of experience or understanding of the operations of municipal government. Local governments are constantly faced with having to balance limited resources with need for best in class public service. A good leader needs to understand the challenges that exist, in order to effectively solve the problems of the community.
Senator Mallory McMorrow, State Rep. Natalie Price, current and past city commissioners, Royal Oak Police Officers Association, Royal Oak Professional Firefighters local 431, UAW Region 1, Operating Engineers, Carpenters and Millwrights, Greater Metropolitan Association of Realtors, Sierra Club amongst many others and the list keeps growing daily.
I built the first two LEED Homes in Oakland County
