Wyoming Secretary of State challenges term limits
September 30, 2011
Wyoming: Wyoming Secretary of State Max Maxfield has filed suit challenging a state law that sets term limits for elected officials. The Wyoming Supreme Court ruled that term limit for state legislators were unconstitutional in 2004, but whether or not the same is true for state officials went untested because none signed onto the case. Maxfielid, who is currently serving his second four-year term, says, "I believe our term limit law is unconstitutional, and as Wyoming's chief election officer, it is my duty to take action to correct it. I don't believe my decision to seek election, re-election, or that of candidates who follow me should be influenced by an unconstitutional statute." Maxfield has reportedly filed suit as a private citizen.[1]
