I am a mother with a second grader in Thompson School District and military veteran spouse. I hold a BA in English and an MPA in Government and Policy. I am the child of a migrant mother who taught me the value of hard work and that education is essential to a bright future. I am currently both a substitute teacher in Thompson School District and an interpreter. I am passionate about education and the endless possibilities of brilliant futures our students can have if only they have the best education and right mentors in their lives.

  • Respecting parents by helping them feel connected in the education of their children and within the community of the school.
  • Bridging diverse barriers is important because it can help provide staff with language support, as well as aiding special needs departments with the paraprofessionals they are in desperate need of.
  • Empowering teachers and staff by lightening the load of administrative tasks and giving them the freedom to teach and students the freedom to learn, to be hands on, focusing on the basics, will improvement student achievement.

My mother. She continues to be a strong woman to this day and doesn’t allow life to beat her down – she has worked since she was a young child to help my grandmother make ends meet and to this day, she is a fighter, independent, caring and loving.

Working together with other board members, school administrators and teachers to set a vision/goal for the school district. Work together to ensure that we are providing our students with a competitive curriculum that will ensure their academic success in school and as productive members of society. Show fiscal transparency so that parents and the community can trust that their tax money is being used correctly. Finally, hold those in power, including myself, accountable for the performance of our district. This is a team effort, and we should all have the goal of student success.

I not only have a passion for education, but the experience as well. I have experience bringing community together and working alongside other educators to improve academic success. I have a deep commitment to public service and am willing to work hard to make a positive difference in the lives of our students.

That I was a board member who deeply cared and worked diligently to leave a school district that is academically successful, equitable and inclusive. I would want others, through my example, learn the lessons my own mother instilled in me of education – “echale muchos ganas, no te des por vencida, lucha, respeta, y recuerda que nadie te puede quitar tu educacion,” which means, give it all you’ve got, never give up, fight, show respect and remember that no one can take your education away.

I have had many struggles in my life, some too personal to share, however, one of the biggest ones has been the inability to plant roots. Being a migrant kid and eventually, a Marine Corps spouse, I was expected to up and go wherever I was told. I couldn’t grow roots anywhere, but I did leave seeds everywhere I want. Now, here I am, with my retired husband and young daughter, and I can finally say I am home. I am rooted.

It's a Beautiful Day (Reprise) by The Kiffness, Rushawn, and Jermaine Edwards I recommend everyone listen to it - such a beautiful message!

Little House on the Prairie - it's a very nostalgic book for me because it was one that I used to help me learn English.
