My name is Dr. Yolonda Holmes, affectionately known as “Dr.Yo!” My educational portfolio includes a PhD School of Public Service Leadership-Public Safety/Criminal Justice, Capella University, MA Management, Webster University, MS Criminology, Indiana State University, and a BS Criminal Justice, Voorhees University. I retired from the US Department of Defense after years of service and currently work in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District serving over 20K families, working to close gaps within the public education system. I'm also a licensed and ordained clergy, with over 30 years’ experience in leadership, community advocacy, ministry, education and criminal justice. I have first-hand experience and knowledge of the importance of the issues that should be common ground for leaders bearing the voice of constituents. Healthcare accessibility, rights and freedom; economic sustainability; public school education, etc. are all at risk. North Carolina is in need of a leader that understands how their decisions impact lives daily."I am the leader that understands and takes action."
  • In 2022, I campaigned against Tricia Cotham. I filed the paperwork to serve in March for a primary race occurring in May. In that short time, I was able to assemble a team, mobilize and execute a strong grassroots effort. This hard work resulted in a vote difference of 826 between the campaigns. Think for a moment, less than 1,000 votes contributed to the political landscape of North Carolina today. Sharing my commitment to serving constituents for the betterment of North Carolina is my goal. I stand on principle, and I am committed to serving House District 105, not a personal agenda.
  • As leader, I am committed to representing the people’s voice with focus and understanding. Collectively, we can build strong, thriving communities, for the betterment of North Carolina,
  • I'm fighting for individuals and families and I stand on principle!
The NC General Assembly needs real people with real life experience that can execute actionable perspectives. As a servant leader, my goals for NC include constituent priorities that span the state of North Carolina. Even though legislators represent a designated subset of the state’s population, the enacted legislation becomes law for every individual statewide. For that reason, my priorities will include efforts that support equitable, accessible, and affordable healthcare for all, especially marginalized populations. Livable Wages, Voting Rights, and Equity in Education are also top priorities as these factors present real daily challenges with long-term impact.
It's vitally important for elected officials in North Carolina to be dedicated, energetic, and passionate about fighting to move North Carolina Forward. This person encompasses the spirit of a servant leader navigating with integrity, and tirelessly shifting paradigms to enhance the lives and well-being of ALL North Carolinians.
They should be forward-thinking to understand the needs of the constituents and the community. Staying connected to those you are elected to serve is the only way to effectively represent constituent voices in the General Assembly to support commonsense legislation.

Yolonda Holmes, affectionately called "Dr. Yo", brings a fresh perspective to the political arena. She embraces and understands the daily struggles that families face in our community and throughout North Carolina. Her bold voice resonates with words to encourage and motivate others towards change. As the wife of Darrell Sr. for 25 years, mother to Darrell Jr. and Brooke, daughter, sister, auntie, and many other roles of compassion, she has what it takes to serve with everyone’s values in mind for an inclusive future for North Carolina.
I seek to serve in the NCGA because I feel I was chosen to ensure that the needs of all North Carolinians are met to include equitable education, healthcare, and housing.
“I'm a viable candidate because I'm a servant leader and community engager at heart who responded to the call.” - Dr. Yolonda Holmes
