Yousef Saleh is a member of the Jersey City Council in New Jersey, representing Ward D. He assumed office on May 1, 2020. His current term ends on December 31, 2025.
Saleh (Democratic Party) ran for election to the New Jersey General Assembly to represent District 32. He lost in the Democratic primary on June 10, 2025.
Saleh was appointed to the Jersey City City Council with a 6-2 vote by the council on April 30, 2020. Saleh's appointment replaced the late Michael Yun for a term that ended after the special election for the Ward D seat on November 3, 2020.[1][2]
Biography
Saleh's professional experience includes working as a senior compliance and regulation officer at J.P. Morgan Chase and as a business analyst for AML, KYC, and Compliance.[1] His volunteer experience includes serving on the boards of the Riverview Farmers Market and the Heights Community Board, the latter of which he volunteered on with his predecessor Councilman Yun. Saleh became the first Muslim on the Jersey City City Council when he was appointed to Yun's former seat.[3] Saleh earned both his B.A. in political science and Middle Eastern studies and his J.D. from Rutgers University. He graduated from McNair Academic High School.[4]

2017
In the first election following the return of local control to the district, four of the nine seats on the Jersey City Public Schools Board of Education in New Jersey were up for at-large general election on November 7, 2017. Three seats were up for regular three-year terms and one seat was up for a one-year unexpired term after former board member John Reichart resigned from the board.
Board members Amy DeGise and Lorenzo Richardson won additional three-year terms on the board and were joined in their victory by Matthew Schapiro. They defeated incumbent Gerald Lyons and challenger Yousef Saleh. Mussab Ali took the one-year term, defeating David Miranda.[5]
