I came to the USA from the Dominican Republic just before finishing dental school. In America I earned an Associates degree in dental hygiene, a Bachelors in biology, and a Masters in Public Health. I am most grateful for the educational opportunities given me here in America. Currently I am a director of children's oral health programs in 8 New Jersey counties for a nonprofit public health corporation. In addition to my professional work experiences and formal education, I have a deep love for people and a desire to want to help them. I work very well with all my constituents. I attend lots of community meetings and cultural festivals. I serve on our county's planning board, and I am very approachable and listen very well.
  • Regarding financial concerns, I have been a big advocate for lifelong learning and career readiness programs. If people are better trained, they stand a better chance of finding a good job. I have also supported and referred constituents to our County's Economic Development Corporation, which has helped constituents develop business plans and obtain business loans. Recently union leaders and rank and file members reminded me of the need to champion fairer, more equal bidding opportunities for development projects.
  • Concerning affordable housing, I will continue to work with my colleagues, municipalities, and private partners to build more affordable housing, particularly for senior citizens.
  • The last issue I hear about is how residents, particularly longterm ones, feel government does not work as well today. I point out areas where it does do particularly well in addressing the challenges we face today, but I also take notes where it can be better and bring these constituent concerns to the attention of county directors and/or others who might be able to address these matters.
Causes that I have worked on specifically are balanced/stable budgets, which can easily be found at www.hcnj.us/finance/ (scroll down the page to find 12 years of audited budgets), direct services for our homeless and senior neighbors, helicopter reduction in our area, bike-pedestrian-vehicular safety and education, protecting Liberty State Park, women's empowerment, helping families apply for admissions to Hudson County Schools of Technology and Hudson County Community College as well as appeal decisions that are not favorable, worked with inmates at the county jail, their families, and jail staff to facilitate optimum communication, and, lastly, being a commissioner on the County planning board who has missed only 1 meeting.
I would say the principles learned at home. For instance, from my family I learned the importance of hard work, helping people, and staying faithful to causes I believe in. From my husband of 30 years I have come to appreciate how we support each other. His support allows me to have time to do things in, and for, District 4.
I believe the core responsibilities for this office are honesty, hard work, flexibility, presence, and connecting.
Knowing my constituents felt I did a good job.
9/11 in New York City. I worked across the street from the World Trade Center and it devastated me to see the buildings collapse and people die. It strengthens me to do more for others.
The Bible because it’s the foundation of my religion

I have always had a passion for public service, particularly public health. From an early age, while living in the Dominican Republic, I have witnessed families and communities suffer from inadequate healthcare. I decided to do something about it by going to dental school; but dental school became too financially burdensome to my family, so I came to the United States seeking educational and economic opportunities. I earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in dental hygiene, a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and a Master of Public Health degree.

I have been the elected Democratic Committeewoman in Ward C, District 23 for many terms. I currently serve as the Sergeant-At-Arms for the Jersey City Democratic Organization. I am also a member of the Friends of Liberty State Park, Serra Club, and Loyal Order of the Moose. I was awarded the "Service Above Self" community service award from the Rotary Club of Jersey City and was an honoree for the Jersey City St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee as well as the Jersey City Dominican Parade Committee. My activities in the community are what has prompted me to want to seek the office of Freeholder.

I am passionate about social justice, public health, and job creation.

As we witness crisis after crisis gripping our country, we must continue to do better to ensure that laws are fair, the people who enforce them are trained properly, and that government budgets are prioritized to help the community. I'll work tirelessly to achieve this.

The health of a community requires constant examination. Areas that are ill need interventions to heal them. Lack of housing, access to healthy food, good paying jobs, and quality health care are areas that I'll work to improve at the county level. I'll also work with other elected officials to achieve these goals at other levels of government.

Training people to be able to get better jobs is also one of my passions and priorities. I'll communicate job trainings available through the county and post job openings as that I'm aware of.

Lastly, I'm passionate about open space. I'll fight to ensure that quality open space is maintained and expanded.
This office possesses the power to help residents on many levels. County courts, sheriffs officers, schools, roads, and parks are some of the areas this entity oversees.
The New Testament of the Bible and The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz
If elected, I would like to have people remember me for being a hard worker, honest, and dedicated.
The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle is my favorite book because its uplifting and spiritual. It gave me ideas how to assess and improve myself.
Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers
Learning and speaking the English language.
I believe overseeing the budget is the most important because it reflects the priorities of those responsible for voting for it and those impacted by it.
I believe people should be more aware of the office itself and what are its responsibilities.
Not really. I believe one must care and be willing to listen to, learn from, and act for the residents.
The ability to interact with people respectfully and to be able to connect with them. Also, one must possess critical thinking skills to assess circumstances as objectively as possible.
