My name is Zach Herbert. I’m a husband, father, Marine Corps veteran, and personal injury trial lawyer. For most of my career, I’ve stood in courtrooms across Texas fighting for everyday people against the biggest insurance companies and corporations. Before that, I wore the uniform of a United States Marine, where I learned discipline, duty, and that honor is more than a word—it’s a way of life. Today, I’m running for the Texas House to take that same fight for fairness to Austin.
  • As a Theology major in college, I learned inclusiveness and compassion. I believe that all Texans deserve dignity, respect, inclusion, and equitable treatment.
  • In law school, I learned how to stand up for the powerless. They aren’t listening to us in Austin. They aren’t listening to School Districts. They aren’t listening to city leaders. They aren’t listening to parents. They are only listening to big businesses and billionaires. We need a voice in Austin that is uniquely our voice, not a rubber stamp.
  • In the Marines, I learned that true leadership is earned through example. I have lived in this District for over 10 years. I own a small business here, and all four of my children attend public schools here. The people of 112 need true representation down in Austin, someone who understands how hard it is to keep it all together at work, home and everywhere else.
I am passionate about Education, making sure our kids are getting the best education they can, but fully funding our schools and paying our teachers a fair wage. I am passionate about Small Businesses, making sure that they are protected, and can afford to pay a living wage to their employees, and can afford to pay full benefits to all employees. I am passionate about Healthcare, expanding Medicaid to all Texans, an making sure no Texan is left without lifesaving care merely because they can't afford it.
Leadership. In the Marines I learned how to lead by example, with Honor. The most lasting ethos that I practice today is "Leaders eat Last." That means that the higher ranking Marines would ensure that in the line for food, they are making sure all the Marines eat before they do. That's how a leader in our government should act.
I'm proud of my marriage of over 20 years to my best friend and soulmate, Jennifer. We have had many adventures, and we are an amazing team.
