As lifelong Ohioans, my wife Kara and I are raising our two children (and a golden retriever) in Clintonville. I see patients as a hospice & palliative care physician at Ohio State and, until this campaign, had served as an Assistant Medical Director for Ohio Medicaid. I understand what it takes to be an effective policymaker and have a track record of shaping large programs to help everyday Ohioans. With two students attending the underfunded Columbus City Schools and patients struggling to get the care they need, I know that we all deserve better.
Enough is enough when it comes to our gerrymandered legislature focusing on private profits. And that’s why I'm running for state representative: for the public good!
Lastly, and sincerely, thank you for taking the time to research candidates. I am glad you are here and engaged in the democratic process.- Affordability is the priority! I worry that affordability gets lost as just some buzzword in these times of high inflation and historic wealth inequality. I will focus on writing specific words into our laws that make increases to minimum wage and updates to our insurance premiums reflect wage growth (or lack thereof) and housing costs. Supporting union membership, attracting quality employers, and advancing wage transparency laws will mark the path to rising wages for Ohioans.
- Public dollars for public schools! There are no do-overs when it comes to a child's development and education. If Ohio is to be the Heart of it All, our children must be the start of it all. Our child care system is unapproachably expensive for many families in a way that both limits workforce participation and misses an opportunity for school preparedness. Add to this the gutting of public education on multiple fronts - insufficient support of the Fair School Funding Plan, unconstitutional vouchers, tax breaks to corporations - and the result is a gigantic limitation of our potential. Kids deserve to have funds (pun intended)!
- Healthcare for people, not for profit! I know healthcare from the inside. I'm triple-boarded in internal medicine, pediatrics, and hospice & palliative medicine. I served the past four years as an Ohio Medicaid Assistant Medical Director and was appointed to an advisory council at the Department of Health by Dr. Amy Acton. I will be there to protect Medicaid, stand up to private insurance company profiteering, and address costs through an all-payer claims database and tougher scrutiny of anti-competitive mergers.
I believe in representative democracy: electing someone among us to work for us. I am ready to do the hard work in the state legislature of pulling our government out of the grip of dark money and restoring it to the people it is meant to serve.
