Asked opponent for debate
In July 2010, Wamp challenged Knoxville Mayor and gubernatorial opponent Bill Haslam to more debates, but the Haslam campaign showed little interest in considering. The Haslam campaign pointed to what was believed to be a record number of joint appearances among the candidates, mostly at forums.
Wamp was trailing behind Haslam when Wamp requested another debate, with then-Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey following in third place. The primary was August 5.[2]
Haslam accused Wamp of "trivializing campaign with personal attacks."
On July 16, Wamp released a negative television advertisement focusing on Haslam, which the former Mayor labeled “grossly distorted and misleading.”[3]
