Candidate Connection

Zachary Pendroy participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 31, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Zachary Pendroy's responses follow below.[1]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Increasing Access to Mental Health Care Investment in Infrastructure Restoring Labor and Workers' Rights Investing in K-12 and Higher Education[2][3]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I am very passionate about Mental Health Care because I utilize mental health care. I have seen the errors that our state has made and I want to ensure that our public policy adequately addresses the errors to become a leader in the nation on this matter.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Zachary Pendroy answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

I believe that the most important characteristics of an elected official are honesty and active listening.[3]
What legacy would you like to leave?
The legacy I want to leave is a stronger Iowa. A stronger Iowa includes a willingness to help our neighbors and develop stronger communities by ensuring individuals think holistically in public policy decisions.[3]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first official job was as a general laborer in a logistics company. I would care for the yard, semi-tractors and trailers, and travel to different stores for parts. My unofficial job was always as a farmer on our family farm where we raise crops and livestock.[3]
Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other legislators? Please explain your answer.
I believe it is imperative that legislators form relationships with members of the other party. This will ensure that both parties can from bi-partisan solutions by looking at the multiple facets of issues.[3]
What process do you favor for redistricting?
I feel that redistricting should be performed by a non-partisan commission that is independent of the state legislature.[3]
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
There are three committees that I feel would be fascinating to be a part of including the Human Resources, Judiciary, and Labor committees.[3]
