Ron Crane
Ron G. Crane was the state treasurer in Idaho from 1999 to 2019. He was first elected to this position in 1998. Crane did not seek re-election in 2018.[1]
Biography
Following his graduation from college, Crane served in the Idaho National Guard from 1971 to 1977. When he served as state treasurer, he had been the owner and operator of Crane Alarm Service since 1979.[2] In 2010, Crane was elected president of the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA).[1]

Political career
Idaho Treasurer (1999-2019)
Crane first assumed office as Idaho treasurer on January 4, 1999, having won in the general election on November 3, 1998. He was re-elected four times since, in 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014. He did not seek re-election in 2018, leaving office in January 2019.
Audit of Crane's office
In January 2012, it was first reported that Idaho Legislative Services auditors had been reviewing financial records from Crane's office to determine if any criminal offenses took place. Under state law, the audit is conducted at least every three years.[3] In a report released January 30, legislative auditors accused Crane of improperly documenting his office expenditures, particularly the use of transportation. Crane disagreed with the report but said that in the future he would record future expenditures through the state's accounting system.[4]

Ron Crane endorsed Rick Santorum in the 2012 presidential election.[5]
Idaho House of Representatives (1982-1998)
Before becoming treasurer, Crane was a Republican member of the Idaho House of Representatives. He was first elected in 1982 and served for eight terms.

2014
Crane ran for re-election as state treasurer in 2014.[6] He ran unopposed for the Republican nomination in the primary on May 20. The general election took place on November 4, 2014.

When he served as state treasurer, Crane and his wife, Cheryl, had six children and seven grandchildren. The family resided in Crane's hometown of Nampa, Idaho.[2][10]
